It's A Mad World. Are You 'Going Nowhere'?

Here in the UK...we always have a race for the "Christmas No. 1" in the top 40 singles' charts.

It's a mixed bag between re-issues, new songs, and novelty records.

This year, however...a dark horse has emerged...and, although it will only probably get to #2...it will be one of the top sellers of the year.

Why am I telling you this?

Well...the song is by an 'unknown' American called Gary Jules. It's called "Mad World"...and is a cover version of a song by Tears For Fears released in the eighties.

Not only is it a striking re-working...it made me listen to lyrics when, in the original, they were more drowned out by the music.

The lyrics at the top of this entry start the song...and they certainly got ME thinking!

What does it make you think about?

For me...it reminds of how I USED to be like on my daily commute into work for fifteen years.

That glazed expression of 'people going somewhere to do something they don't like doing just to earn enough money to survive'.
