9/11.

A date that will be etched forever in the memory of a generation.

Also, perhaps to many - a turning point in their lives. Even those lucky enough not be directly effected realised how unpredictable life can be. They realised that there was more to life than drudgery, misery, and unhappiness. They realised that we only get one shot at this life - however long - at that we should make the most of it.

In my life I have a date just like 9/11 - a date on which events marked a turning point in my life - and a realisation that I could live a happy, fulfilled life - a life that I could smile to myself at when I looked back in my old age. That date is 2nd June 1998. The day that my son Connor was born with severe mental and physical disabilities. As far as we were concerned he was going to be a normal, healthy baby. In my mind I can still remember what I felt, saw, and heard.

That day marked a turning point in my life. That day made me realise that a career and job 'security' weren't as important as the health and happiness of my family. I knew then that there was no way back to the old life for me. It took a few years - but my life is now on track to where I want it to go on a personal level.

Don't wait until you experience an event that forces you to realise that you can do something with your life. Don't let it take something terrible to shake you out of your slumber. Do something, anything...but don't wait until it's too late.
