The Focus Of A Six-Year-Old


Having just spent the day at London Zoo with Katie puts me in a reflective mood.

As a parent, it's good to have some quality one-on-one time with your children - spending hours together without the slightest cross word. It's also great to see how a six-year-old's mind works. She's always focused on the current important goal. Her first goal was to see the monkeys - and she kept on and on until we saw them. Then the lions. Then the snails! Then, once she had seen something she wanted to buy in the gift shop - she 'reminded' me about forty times not to forget to go back to buy it!

It's infuriating as hell - but it certainly works. As soon as we were on our journey home - the 'goal' was ice cream!

It's such a shame that we lose that focus as we get older (but not necessarily wiser). How many times have you 'committed' yourself to something only to give up after the first setback? Focus your energies on the most important thing that you can do today - and see it through right to the very end. You'll be glad that you did. I know that Katie is!
